Creative ideas for your rustic barn wedding

We love seeing all the personal details that our couples bring to their weddings here at Upwaltham Barns. Wedding DIY is one of the biggest wedding trends around and handcrafting decorations and details for your big day is always a great idea. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite creative wedding ideas that are perfect for a rustic barn wedding and you’ll be pleased to know that they’re all simple and super effective.

DIY decorations for a rustic wedding

It can be easier than you think to create your own wedding decorations and the key is to plan carefully and give yourself plenty of time for your crafts. These are just some of the wedding ideas that work wonderfully well at Upwaltham Barns.

Save your old jars and wrap them with gardening twine to create fab holders for flowers. Use these to line the aisle in the East Barn or to create simple but effective table centrepieces.

Old pallets are perfect for rustic weddings. Add fairy lights and photos to create a photo display or use it to highlight the timings of your day.

Flowers in wellington boots, in bicycle baskets or even in watering cans are perfect for a countryside wedding.

Simple sprigs of herbs, lavender and corn tied to chairs in the East Barn are wonderful ceremony decorations.

Personal details for a barn wedding

The personal details that you include in your wedding day can really make a difference. They highlight your personalities and bring your wedding theme to life. Making your own details is a great idea and you can be sure that your guests will love them.

Your guests may like to get outside in the evening, perhaps into the Courtyard or Moroccan Snug, so to keep them cosy why not set up a basket of blankets for them to use? Add a handmade sign for extra impact.

Worried that your guests might not find us? A handmade sign will definitely point them in the right direction!

It’s surprisingly easy to make jam or chutney, and little jars of homemade goodness make brilliant wedding favours if you want to ‘spread the love’.

We love this table plan! A wooden backdrop with flowers and photos with table assignments pegged to strings is a really eye-catching detail.

Use an old suitcase, picnic hamper, garden trug or basket to give guests somewhere to leave your wedding cards or as your DIY photobooth props case.
