Food ideas for your wedding reception

Your wedding food is a big part of your day. It sets the scene for your celebrations and can really impress your guests. Your menu also gives you the chance to indulge in the food you love too! From picking your own favourites to opting for dishes that suit the style of your day, whatever the route you want to take Nibbles2Nosh, caterers to Upwaltham Barns will work with you to create your perfect wedding menu.

After your ceremony, it’s time to start celebrating, so why not kick off your reception with some delicious canapes? Hearty favourites include mini fish and chips with mushy peas, Yorkshire puddings with rare fillet steak or even mini cottage pies with cheesy mash and bacon dust. For something a little more contemporary opt for Bourbon glazed pork belly with sour cream dip, sesame crusted chicken strips with mango salsa or Jamaican inspired jerk chicken and plantain skewers. Vegetarians are also well catered for with mozzarella arancini with spicy tomato sauce, wild mushroom tartlets and Cheddar beignets with sesame dressing. And don’t worry about missing out on these tasty treats, we always make sure the bride & groom have their own plate of Canapes to share.

A welcome reception also needs a selection of refreshing drinks. For a more traditional option choose fizz, Pimms or during the winter mulled wine or to get interactive with your guests set up a drinks trolley so they can ‘Pimp Your Drink’. Not only are they great fun but they can also act as a great ice breaker for your guests as they mingle in the courtyard.

Your wedding breakfast in the South Barn will definitely be a highlight of the day and therefore it’s a great time to indulge. Traditional roast dinners with all the trimmings are always a popular choice, as is the classic pie and mash.

However, if you’d like a more social wedding breakfast, why not have a fun, interactive sharing meal? Begin your feast with a sharing platter followed by a delicious main course which everyone can help themselves to at the table. In the summer months a BBQ in the courtyard creates a casual ambience to your big day. You can choose from a host of options including a side of salmon, butterflied leg of lamb or Chinchinga beef skewers all served with freshly prepared salads.

We all love sweet treats, so desserts are given pride of place on the Nibbles2Nosh menus. Warm chocolate brownies, Eton mess, salted caramel cheesecake and sticky toffee puddings are just a few of the delights that you’ll be able to choose from. If you can’t choose just one, why not select a trio of desserts? When it comes to puddings, more is definitely more!

Children, vegetarian and vegan guests are also well catered for and there are a full range of starters, main dishes and desserts available. Nibble2Nosh will even provide two extra portions of your vegetarian option as a precautionary measure for those that might change their minds on the day.

Evening wedding food

Evening food is always a good idea because you’ll want to make sure that everyone has enough energy to party late into the night. Your evening food also gives you a great opportunity to serve something a little bit different or to create a real spectacle for your guests.

Handheld favourites are always popular – sausage and bacon rolls, buttermilk fried chicken and chips, bang bang chicken wraps or halloumi fries with sweet chilli sauce are sure to make mouths water!

For something different, how about a kebab bar or even a ‘build your own burger’ station? Bowl food favourites such as chicken ramen or spicy beef chilli are always a winner too!

Think outside the box

We know that bunting and sweet tables are very popular at weddings here at Upwaltham Barns, but how about merging the two and creating your own edible bunting? Bags of popcorn, crisps, retro snacks or stripy paper bags of sweets are a brilliant way of providing tasty treats in the Stable Bar whilst also being a fun decoration!
