Izzie & Eddie’s Italian Themed Micro Wedding

After a proposal in Sorrento, Italy during a beautiful holiday celebrating 6 years together Izzie & Eddie started planning their wedding. Inspiration came from the Italian coast with Mediterranean colours & Italian food!

It had to be Upwaltham Barns

Izzie is a wedding co-ordinator for Nibbles2Nosh, the caterers to Upwaltham Barns. For Izzie Upwaltham is not just a wedding venue it is also her grandparents farm & has so many special childhood memories.

“We couldn’t have chosen anywhere else!”

Styling Upwaltham Barns

“Our theme was based around our engagement in Sorrento, with a gorgeous colour palette of various green shades, ivory & a hint of thistle blue.”

“Our most important part of the wedding was the food! We are real foodies; we chose Italian themed dishes such as homemade ravioli to start with & desserts with an Italian twist.”

Izzie & Eddie worked with Claire, head chef at Nibbles2Nosh who is also Izzie’s auntie, to create a bespoke menu.

Change of plan due to Covid-19 restrictions

Like many couples in 2020 Izzy & Eddie had waited a long time for their wedding day, saving, planning & trying to make it perfect. With pandemic restrictions in place wedding plans changed & then changed again, there were tears, the need to be flexible & then the realisation that what they really wanted was just to get married.

“A few weeks before our wedding date, after we had committed to an intimate wedding, we suddenly realized that it was the wedding day we were after all along. It was perfect!”

“With our intimate wedding we wanted to create a warm and cosy feel, so we asked To Have and To Hire Events to put up their gorgeous drapes with fairy lights, we had rugs hired from The Surrey Wedding Company under our banquet tables which came from Crystal Hire and candles absolutely everywhere!”

“In the end, our intimate wedding was so amazing! Having 90 less people actually opened up our budget to going a little bit wild and including all the decorations, food, presents, accessories and flowers that we couldn’t include before – the final day took our breath away!”

Dressing for the occasion

“It was amazzzzzzing! I found my dress at May & Grace. After having a bit of a wary start to dress shopping Emelie put me at ease and really found out about my style and wedding day before she started pulling out these gorgeous pieces she thought would work – and they truly were gorgeous!”

“I was so excited to try separates instead of a wedding dress, as I thought it would allow me to choose a bespoke boho combination, and I had such fun picking out my A-line ivory skirt with a vintage silk lining, vintage silk heart corset and then a beautiful long sleeved daisy-lace top!”

“On the day The Floral Artisan made my amazing floral crown, which I desperately wanted as an Italian version of my Mum’s from 31 years ago! My wonderful Godfather brought me some sparkly Jimmy Choos – the best wedding present ever!”

Wedding tips & advice

“Our words of advice for other couples would be to persevere and to focus on the big picture. You chose each other out of all the people in the world, and this day is not about anyone else, it is about the two of you and ending the day as a married couple.”

“Make a list (in order) of the most important wedding things to you and your partner, and later down the line if you find yourself feeling out of control take a step back and re-visit them. Your day is unique to what is important to the two of you!”
