Bar supervisor

The Stable Bar are the bar and drinks service at Upwaltham Barns.
We are looking for a responsible and flexible Bar Supervisor to join our team from March onwards, sharing the wedding event evenings between themselves and our current Bar Supervisor.
These evening shifts (6pm/7pm to 1am) are available both during the week and at weekends, and work very well around any candidates who have a second job or require flexibility.
We would be looking for a candidate available to cover mostly Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings, with the occasional Saturday night. There are around 38 wedding shifts available to this role in 2025, with additional ad-hoc events to be confirmed. A full list of the confirmed wedding dates/shifts is available on request.
Should the candidate be interested in more hours than above, they are also welcome to work standard bar staff shifts during the daytime (Midday to 7pm) or additional evening shifts.
Suitable candidates will be confident in managing a small bar, and overseeing up to 3 staff members, whilst offering a high standard of service and reporting directly to the owner. We are a friendly team, offering a venue ethos of a personable and approachable family-feel service.

 

Duties:

  • Manage daily bar operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Supervise and train bar staff (up to 3 staff a shift) in bartending techniques, and customer service.
  • Monitor the quality of beverages served to ensure consistency and excellence.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally to enhance guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organisation of the bar area, adhering to hygiene standards.
  • General bar work and service throughout the events.
  • Close down the venue and cash up at the end of the shift.
  • Manage a potentially lively wedding crowd.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a hospitality role, preferably as a Bar Manager/Supervisor or possibly a bar staff member with extensive experience who is looking for the next step.
  • Strong bartending skills with knowledge of various drink recipes and preparation techniques.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and manage a team effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to interact positively with guests and staff alike.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A passion for the hospitality industry and commitment to delivering outstanding service.

 

The role will include:

  • Weekday and weekend shifts.
  • Evening shifts, from around 6pm/7pm to 1am, managing all elements of the evening bar.
  • A permanent zero-hour worker contract, flexible around your availability. Shifts available to be booked in far in advance, so we can divide the entire year of events between our current bar supervisor and the new candidate.
  • Regular March – December work, with a very busy Spring & Summer season.
  • Some ad-hoc events/administration working days in January and February. Although, we suggest any holiday entitlement is taken throughout these months.
  • Comprehensive training available, with qualifications in First Aid and Fire Marshalling available if you do not already have them.
  • £14 an hour, moving to £15 an hour after a six-month probation period.
  • If the candidate is interested in working additional shifts as a standard bar staff member, these are available at £12.25 an hour.
  • Holiday pay as Bar Staff or Bar Supervisor at 12.07% of every hour worked.
  • Unlimited complimentary soda drinks or hot drinks on every shift.
  • A staff Christmas event every year to celebrate the team.

 

Applicants with a personal alcohol licence are desirable, but not essential.
It is essential you have your own transport, as Upwaltham Barns is situated in a very rural area with no public transport, and you must be 18+ for bar work.

Bar staff

The Stable Bar are the bar and drinks service at Upwaltham Barns.
We are looking for new members to join our bar team for 2025, with day shifts (Midday to around 7pm/8pm) and evening shifts (6pm/7pm to 12.30) available both during the week and at weekends. Our events take place Thursday-Sunday mostly.
Suitable candidates will have a positive attitude, whilst offering a high standard of service, to fit in with the venue ethos of offering a personable and approachable family-feel service.
Our work-family are at the heart of The Stable Bar and the wedding venue in general, and once part of the team we work hard to ensure a happy and fun work environment for all.

 

The role will include:

  • Weekday and weekend shifts.
  • Day shifts, from around Midday to 7pm/8pm, working the daytime bar and serving wine to the wedding guests during the wedding breakfast. Working alongside catering waiting staff.
  • Evening shifts, from around 7pm to 12.30, working the evening bar.
  • A permanent zero hour worker contract, flexible around your availability.
  • Regular March – December work, with a very busy Spring & Summer season.
  • Some ad-hoc event days in January and February, although we suggest any holiday entitlement is taken throughout these months.
  • Comprehensive training.
  • £12.25 an hour, plus holiday pay at 12.07% for every hour worked.
  • Complimentary soda drinks and hot drinks throughout your shift.
  • A staff Christmas event every year to celebrate the team.

 

We’d love to hear from applicants with previous bar or hospitality experience, a friendly and positive approach, and an enjoyment of a fast-paced atmosphere. You’ll need great customer service skills and a genuine interest in making every wedding special.
It is essential you have your own transport, as Upwaltham Barns is situated in a very rural area with no public transport, and you must be 18+ for bar work.
Any experience with EPOS systems is beneficial but not necessary as training will be provided.
