When couples first arrive at Upwaltham Barns, they often tell us the same thing it just feels right.

And while the setting plays its part, nestled in the South Downs National Park, it is the thoughtful design of our barns and spaces that truly shapes that feeling. Over the years, we have carefully evolved each corner of Upwaltham Barns to create something that feels both timeless and quietly contemporary. A rustic barn wedding venue, yes but one that feels considered, calm and beautifully put together.

Where rustic meets refined

For us, rustic does not mean rough around the edges. It means warmth, texture and authenticity.

Our barns retain their original oak beams, flint walls and open, airy structure, but these heritage features are softened with gentle lighting, neutral tones and a layout that allows each space to breathe. The result is a setting that feels relaxed yet elevated, where you can layer your own style without ever feeling like you need to over decorate.

We have always believed that great design should feel effortless. The kind you notice without quite knowing why.

Spaces designed for flow

One of the things we hear most from our couples is how naturally the day unfolds.

From the moment you arrive at The Orchard Room in the morning, through to your ceremony in the East Barn, drinks in the courtyard and into the evening celebrations, each space connects seamlessly to the next. There is a rhythm to it. No awkward transitions, no moments where guests feel unsure of where to go next.

We designed it this way intentionally. So that your day feels relaxed, intuitive and completely yours.

A backdrop that lets your style shine

We often describe Upwaltham Barns as a blank canvas, but that does not quite do it justice.
