After a proposal on a cruise touring around Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay, Charlotte and Warren began making their dream summer wedding a reality. After trawling through Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, they started planning their perfect day.
Finding ‘the one’
A barn wedding venue was top of the list for Charlotte and Warren followed by personal touches and making it a special day for everyone.
“We fell in love with Upwaltham Barns as soon as we saw it. The beauty of The East Barn and the fact The South Barn was separate for the reception. A real positive was that at Upwaltham Barns if it rains there are so many options. The barns can be used for the drink’s reception and there’s plenty of space for guests to mingle. Plus, if the sun isn’t shining and you have to go inside the décor is so stunning that it doesn’t matter!”
Styling Upwaltham Barns
A rustic theme ran through this unique summer wedding with the couple keen to create a number of personal touches themselves. Charlotte and Warren enjoyed creating centrepieces out of wood slices and old jam jars.
“We decorated our wood slices and old jam jars with gypsophila and pink roses. This matched our cake, which was a brownie tower made by none other than my sister, the Maid of Honour!”
Wooden hearts with each guest’s name handwritten on created the perfect table place names.
“We absolutely loved adding the personal touches and so much of the styling we did ourselves!”
The only help Charlotte and Warren got was from the florists at Angel Like Flowers. They crafted a beautiful floral arch at the entrance of the ceremony barn, a stunning spay for the registrars table as well as the bouquets and buttonholes.
Dressing for the occasion
Charlotte’s gorgeous wedding dress was everything she didn’t think she wanted.
“I said I didn’t want any lace, but I ended up getting a dress which was all lace. It was tight-fitting with a v-shaped neckline and a low back. I purchased it from The Bridal Room in Reigate, and they were just amazing.”
On the day, Charlotte accessorised with her sisters rose gold heart necklace that doubled up as her ‘something borrowed’ and used gypsophila in her hair.
The Maid of Honour, Charlotte’s sister and four of Charlotte’s closest friends wore floor-length blush pink dresses which went with the rustic summer wedding theme perfectly. The Groom and Groomsmen were sure to match too.
“Warren and his groomsmen wore navy three-piece suits. The groomsmen had navy ties to match the rest of their ensemble, while Warren chose a pink tie to match the bridesmaid dresses.”
The Wedding Day
Charlotte and Warren held their ceremony in The East Barn, creating an intimate atmosphere with a church style set up and their loved ones playing their parts throughout.
“My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri and my mum, one of my best friends and one of Warren’s best friends all did beautiful readings. It was so special!”
The couple chose a delicious menu for their wedding breakfast including a choice of Roasted Vegetable and Ricotta Tart or paté to start, Roast Pork with all the trimmings or a Butternut Squash Cassoulet for main course and Brownies or Salted Caramel Cheesecake for dessert. Guests were definitely spoilt for choice!
During the evening reception the newlyweds performed their first dance to ‘Tenerife Sea’ by Ed Sheeran. The dance was completely unchoreographed allowing them to relax and enjoy the special moment together. The fun-filled celebrations continued until the day came to a close.
Wedding tips and advice
“If we could do it all again, we wouldn’t change a thing! We were quite chilled throughout the process until the last couple of days leading up to our wedding when we both became a little bit stressed but there was no need to be. Relax and try not to let the process stress you out too much. Everything will always work out in the end!”
