Your wedding is a big investment and, as with anything valuable, insuring it is a good idea. Wedding insurance is a wedding must-have and it’s the ultimate safety net for your big day. With everything in place, any unforeseen circumstances won’t become big problems and you can relax, knowing that your wedding insurance has got you covered.
Why you might need wedding insurance
Just like your car or home cover, your wedding insurance is there to protect you financially if the unexpected happens. Thankfully, the vast majority of couples never need to claim on their wedding insurance but those who do often say that they don’t know what they would have done if they’d not had a policy in place. When you’re putting lots of your hard-earned cash into one day, it really makes sense to ensure you’re insured.
So, what does your wedding insurance cover? Well, if you or one of your immediate wedding party or a close relative falls ill and you’re not able to go ahead with your day, you’re covered if you cancel or need to re-arrange the day. You really don’t want a burst appendix to get in the way of your plans but if it does, your wedding insurance will kick in and help you out.
Your wedding insurance can also cover all those deposits that you’re paying to wedding suppliers should they go bust. This includes florists, cakemakers, photographers and even your dress. Your deposits will be refunded, and some insurance will even cover the additional costs that you might incur if you have to arrange another supplier. Depending on your policy, even your wedding photos will be covered – if a camera breaks or a memory card is wiped, you can re-stage your wedding photos!
Policies can also cover accidental damage to your wedding outfits before the big day so that they can be replaced or repaired for you. If your wedding gifts or rings are lost, damaged or stolen most policies will cover this until the day after your wedding, and in some cases if a severe storm prevents you and most of your guests making it to Upwaltham Barns on the day, you will also be covered.
At Upwaltham Barns, we know how important it is to be insured and we can assure you that we’re covered for absolutely everything. As much as we would like it to, our insurance does NOT cover you should YOU need to cancel for any reason, and if you don’t have your own insurance you may come unstuck. For a relatively small cost, wedding insurance will really give you peace of mind.
Shopping for wedding insurance
Arranging your wedding insurance doesn’t have to be complicated and it can be done in minutes online. If you’re shopping around, make sure that the cover level is appropriate to your day so that the policy will cover the amount you’re spending on your day. When we talk about wedding insurance, popular providers include John Lewis and WedInsure but you can also use comparison sites such as Money Supermarket or Compare Wedding Insurance to look for a competitive deal.
Just as with all insurance, it’s really important that you’re clear on exactly what is and isn’t covered before you sign up and make sure that you know what the excess payment will be. We always encourage our couples to read all of their wedding contracts carefully before they sign on the dotted line and the same is true with your insurance. For example, some policies will cover gifts of money, vouchers or cheques whilst others won’t. Make sure that your policy is going to work with your plans.
You can arrange your wedding insurance at pretty much any point during the planning process but we would strongly recommend taking it out when you book Upwaltham Barns. You can always upgrade your policy should your wedding budget change. Make sure that you keep all your invoices and contracts from all your suppliers so that if you do need to claim for anything, you have all the paperwork to hand to make sure it’s as easy as possible.
Finally, if you’re lucky enough to be jetting off on a glam honeymoon after the big day, your wedding insurance won’t cover you on your travels. So, arrange travel insurance as soon as you book your honeymoon so that you know you’re going to be able to relax and enjoy every part of your wedding day.
