Jasmine & Kyle’s English Country Garden Wedding

When you call Upwaltham Barns ‘home’, a magical family celebration with ‘all hands-on deck’ was always inevitable.
Tim and Nicola’s eldest daughter Jasmine, married Kyle on one of the hottest days of the year, in June 2019.

“Upwaltham Barns is my home and Kyle has spent a huge amount of time here with my family over the last 10 years, so much so that we never even discussed there being anywhere else for us to have our wedding day”.

Styling Upwaltham Barns

Flowers were the main wedding decoration, and the couple filled the barns with bright, wild flower arrangements and installations to mirror the outside gardens in the Summer months.

“I wanted it to feel like I was walking through a wild meadow when I walked down the aisle with my Dad, so we went out as a family the day before our wedding and picked lots of wildflowers foraged from around the venue. Then my mum (Nicola) and some of her best friends got to work on creating a walkway of flowers in the church & the East Barn. I purposefully asked for them to all be different and wild, I didn’t want neat arrangements, the fact that my wedding dress brushed against them and guests had to step over them to get to their seats was exactly what we wanted”.

Dressing for the occasion

The most important thing for Jasmine was that she looked and felt like herself; something relaxed and romantic with a simple veil.

“We walked into The Chapel at Miss Bush and I immediately felt more relaxed than I had in any other shop. Rosie had such a positive attitude and when I discovered that Jesus Piero could make a bespoke dress, I knew I was in the right place. I therefore chose a style of dress and material that I loved and asked for a bespoke polka dot tulle insert to be created in the back of the dress.”

Charlotte from Polka Dot Hair & Makeup created natural relaxed bridal hair and make-up with freshly picked Jasmine flowers from the garden to finish the ‘country’ look. Jasmine’s younger sister gifted her with a pair of bespoke ‘bud & bloom’ ceramic earrings handmade by pswithlove which really provided a statement for Jasmine’s relaxed look.

Kyle wore a bespoke blue wedding suit with a pale blue lining from Edit Suits and a tie from Beaufort & Blake.

The wedding day

Nicola & Tim, Jasmine’s parents, were married in St Mary the Virgin church opposite Upwaltham Barns so Jasmine & Kyle wanted to include this little church in some way to their day too. They had a small blessing in the church surrounded by their closest friends and family, before returning to the Courtyard at Upwaltham Barns to meet the rest of their guests and get officially married in the East Barn.

After a delicious wedding breakfast of mint and chilli dressed lamb prepared by Nibbles2Nosh and a stunning meringue wedding cake made by Jasmine’s godmother, guests were asked to follow the couple, who were piped (a nod to their University days together in Scotland!) to a hidden Tipi in the valley behind the barns, provided by Tentario. A fabulous ‘Festival in a Field’ was perfect for the evening celebrations.

“It was one of the best feelings, walking up to the valley surrounded by our guests all perplexed as to where we were going. To then hear their gasps of realisation and shock when they saw the Tipi, Kyle and I knew we had pulled off an epic surprise for everyone and we couldn’t wait to start the party!”

The evening was kicked off by live band The Child followed by DJ Nick from Toast. They both kept the dance floor packed all night! A hog roast and gin bar ensured everyone was fed and watered, and the whole of Upwaltham partied hard before a sparkler send off at midnight!

Wedding tips & advice

“Although your wedding day is about you as a couple, it also means so much to your friends and family so we suggest you do what you can to involve them all, no matter how small the task. We also tried really hard to find a couple of moments throughout the day to stop and look around us. The day whizzes by, and it was so lovely to take a deep breath a see all the friends and family who love you so much and are there to celebrate with you.”
