Hannah and Lauren’s November 5th wedding at Upwaltham Barns included plenty of candlelight and a spectacular firework display! The couple filled their autumnal wedding with unique details, elegant touches and lots of seasonal food and fun.
Finding ‘the one’
Having decided early in their wedding planning that they wanted a barn wedding, Hannah and Lauren visited Upwaltham Barns and fell completely in love. The rustic charm, the beautiful décor and the barns’ stunning setting was everything they’d imagined and inspired their unique wedding ideas.
“We loved the different areas such as the Moroccan snug and the bar area with open fire. The barns’ owners Nicola and Tim were super friendly, warm and welcoming and once we’d visited Upwaltham, we really had no other option!” – Hannah.
Styling Upwaltham Barns
Embracing the theme of ‘love and light’, Hannah and Lauren brought lots of unique wedding ideas together to create their dream day. Lavender was used throughout the unique wedding day and Hannah made lots of decorations including place names, table names, a seating plan, the order of service and picture bunting for the bar area. She also crafted fantastic children’s entertainment packs for the wedding breakfast.
“We didn’t really have a colour scheme but I love lavender and liked the idea of having lots of different sensory things during the day. I also love the fact that the smell of lavender will now remind me of my wedding day so this as a colour featured heavily as did blush. Our florist, Wild Willow, also managed to include ideas from Lauren and I in our decorations and they managed to bring our wild and romantic sides together perfectly!” – Hannah.
Dressing for the occasion
Hannah wore an Annasul Y dress that totally fulfilled her dreams of a vintage style wedding dress with a low-scooped back. It was comfortable and glamorous and Hannah loved the tiny beads and sequins that sparkled in the light.
Lauren wore a custom-made, bespoke gown from White Leaf Boutique in Brighton. The simple flowing skirt combined with a thigh split and beautiful lace bodice but it was the sheer back with applique lace flowers that was the highlight of this stunning dress.
Lauren teamed her gown with smoking style slippers that she designed herself. Hannah wore blush colour vintage style shoes from Rachel Simpson and also wore her late Nanny’s watch as her ‘something old’.
“Amy from Dolly’s Beauty Parlour is a friend of Lauren’s and agreed to do our hair for us for the wedding day and we’re so thankful. She was very attentive, listened to what we both wanted and made us feel amazing!” – Hannah.
The wedding day
After the couple’s ceremony at Upwaltham Barns wedding venue, their guests were served with Prosecco and canapés that included miniature Yorkshire puddings with beef. Their wedding breakfast menu featured lamb shank and a trio of puddings to satisfy Hannah’s sweet tooth. Cones of chips were served in the evening and the couple loved the fact that their names were printed on the cones.
Music featured strongly during the day so an acoustic duo played during the ceremony and drinks reception. Hannah also compiled a playlist for their wedding breakfast and then their friend, Joe Darby, was their evening DJ. Inspired by their unique wedding on Bonfire Night, they provided all their guests with sparklers, which lit up the courtyard, when they went outside to watch the fireworks display by Selstar.
“There were so many amazing moments and I know it’s a cliché but it literally was the best and happiest day of my life. One moment that stands out was just after the ceremony. We were sat in the back room waiting to do the confetti line and I remember thinking how amazing and fun the ceremony had been. I actually thought it was going to be terrifying and very formal but it was the complete opposite.” – Hannah.
Wedding tips and advice:
“I wish I’d asked for more photos with my specific friend groups. The day flies by and it was difficult to keep track of who I’d had my picture taken with. Although, I did feel like a celebrity being papped!” – Lauren.
“Someone told me to make sure I zoomed out and took a few moments to try and take everything in – I definitely tried to do this throughout the day and it helped me remember details that I may otherwise have missed. When it comes to ANYTHING about YOUR wedding, go with what you feel comfortable with. It’s your day and although politics and opinions can’t always be avoided, you should stick with what YOU want.” – Hannah.
