Winter weddings are always magical here at Upwaltham Barns, and we love seeing our barn wedding venue transformed into a winter wonderland. If you’ve got the festive feeling, then you’re going to love these ideas for decorations and details. It really is the season to be jolly!
A winter wonderland wedding
There are so many ways that you can create wintery perfection at Upwaltham Barns, and we will start with your flowers and floral decorations. Firstly, what could be better for the season than mistletoe? Use it to decorate chairs during your ceremony in the East Barn or craft wreaths and hanging decorations – just don’t forget to kiss underneath it!
Fir tree branches make beautiful decorations, and they can also bring a beautiful scent to your day. Use them to decorate tables or line the aisle for your ceremony. We also love traditional holly wreaths and snowy white flowers with little pops of a statement colour. If you’ve dreamt snow on your wedding day, choose white petals for your confetti as they will give you the effect of snowflakes falling.
As the winter nights draw in lighting is the key to giving your wedding a warm glow. We all think of fairy lights when we think of winter, and they are perfect for weddings. Wrap them around beams, add them to floral decorations, drape them in trees around the Courtyard, string them around your table plan or even use them to highlight your guest book table.
Of course, candles are always a romantic option, and the South Barn looks amazing in the flickering candlelight. Pillar candles and tea lights in glass lanterns on tables look beautiful or, for a more dramatic look, why not suspend candles in little glass holders from the wrought iron chandeliers?
Festive winter wedding ideas
Lots of couples choose a winter wedding because they love Christmas and want to embrace that festive feeling. We love Christmas too, so you’ll always find a huge tree in both barns at this time of year. To keep the theme flowing throughout you could also name your tables after reindeer, use baubles as place cards and gift wrap your favours.
Whilst you might not want to serve a traditional Christmas cake, you can still give the cake you choose a festive twist. Decorate it with white icing or dredge a naked cake with icing sugar for a snowy effect. Add wintery foliage and flowers as a finishing touch or even fruits and berries.
Finally, if you’re worried about the weather, there’s no need! Jasmine Cottage will be toasty and warm whilst you’re getting ready, and there’s underfloor heating in both the East Barn and South Barn too. However, it’s worth remembering that your guests probably won’t want to spend too much time outside so plan some indoor entertainment. A photo booth with fun props will always get guests smiling, and if you want to give them a sweet treat, a doughnut wall is a fun addition!
