A barn wedding venue had always been top of Beth and James’ wedding wish list; it was just finding the right one for their big day party. A fun, welcoming atmosphere was a must, as was a charming and pretty venue.
Finding ‘the one’
The pair visited Upwaltham Barns on one of their busy wedding weekends – visiting six venues in just two days. Despite having seen a number of barn venues, it was obvious that Upwaltham was ‘the one’. Beth and James loved the separate ceremony and reception spaces which fit all their wedding reception ideas and fell in love with the Moroccan snug. The countryside surroundings were another perk – and ideal for the couple’s wedding photographs.
“The rolling hills of the South Downs offered the perfect setting for our day. Also, Tim and Nicola, the owners, were so welcoming and friendly – making our decision even easier.” – Beth
Styling Upwaltham Barns
Beth and James were keen to bring their wedding decoration ideas to life and give the Barns a personal touch. They did this by getting all their closest family to contribute to the décor for the day – with parents, uncles and aunties playing a role. Beth’s auntie made the bunting while her mum made the couple’s wedding cake. James’ step mum played a key role too, making all the bouquets, buttonholes and flower arrangements for the wedding table decorations.
The couple’s décor had many rustic fete-inspired wedding decoration ideas with pretty flowers, handmade details, and lace and ribbon embellished jam jars adorning the tables.
“Decorating the venue was a real family affair! We have a lot of talented relatives who helped us make our day personal.” – Beth]
Dressing for the occasion
Beth’s dress had it all – a full A-line skirt, lots of sparkle and plenty of pearls. She teamed her pretty gown with shoes from Jenny Packham and finished her look with a vintage vine in her hair.
James splashed out on his suit too – dressing to impress in a three-piece cobalt blue suit from French Connection. He added a pop of colour with a bright pink tie and pocket square, finishing off his look with trendy brogues.
The wedding day
Beth and James enjoyed a beautiful June wedding day, with Beth arriving bright and early to get ready on-site. The couple tied the knot in the bright and airy East Barn before enjoying a celebratory drinks reception outside.
Mini fish and chip cones and mini Yorkshire puddings with beef and horseradish were just two of the canapés served. The delicious canapés were followed by a three-course breakfast, which included a roast lamb main and cheesecake dessert.
“Nibbles 2 Nosh, the caterers based at the Barns, were fantastic. So many of our guests said they loved the food – especially the amazing salted caramel cheesecake dessert!” – Beth
Cracking entertainment was another must for the couple’s wedding day, with the pair going all out to ensure their guests were amused. James even managed to throw in a surprise of his own – a secret project he’d been working on for two years. As he worked in TV, James managed to get a few celebrities to record good luck messages and played their well wishes on the day. The pair also provided a fun photo booth, which ensured guests were entertained all night long.
The highlight of the day, however, was the final dance, which saw Beth and James lifted up in the air. The two ended the night here with a kiss above their guests – the perfect happy ever after.
“Our day was so perfect and more than we could’ve ever imagined! We just wish that we could repeat it all over again!” – Beth
